Army Rescued Two Persons and Nine Animals From Satluj River In Nawnashahr

NAWANSHAHR: Army team , Jalandhar, deputed at Nawanshahr , for carrying rescue operations in the wake of floods, today , saved two human lives besides nine rearing animals from Satluj River near Mattewara Bridge at Begowal village of Nawanshahr district.
The rescue operation was led by a Major rank army official in the supervision of district civil and police administration.

Divulging details, Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Bublani, told that he had got a desperate call for help from Begowal village as one person, who has been residing in a room in the fields of a farmer, was stuck in the sudden increase of the flow of river water. A person who tried to save him also engulfed in the water. Deputy Commissioner immediately rushed the army team with district police officials to save the human lives as well as of rearing animals stuck with them.

The rescue operation was carried in the evening and remained successful. Army team saved both the persons accompanied by two cows, two calves and five goats.

Deputy Commissioner further told that discharge of water from Ropar Head works had started decreasing gradually since noon.  It was 1.63 lakh cusec at 6 pm. This downstream discharge was quiet high to the tune of 2.23 lakh cusec in the noon. "The decrease in discharge has given a sigh of relief to the district administration but we will remain vigilant overnight", he added.
