Forest cover enhanced by six percent in punjab

JALANDHAR:Punjab Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Sunday said that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the department has got success in the removing the encroachments over 7000-acre of forest land in Punjab and the vacated land is being developed as a forest area.

Addressing a press conference in circuit house, the minister said that Punjab Government has initiated a drive against the illegal possession to lift the encroachments from the forest lands since its inception and the state's forest cover has increased by six percent.

He said that in the coming months, the department is going to lift another large chunk of land under encroachment in the Pathankot district and plantation will be carried out on the entire land.

Giving the details, he revealed the department has aimed to lift all such encroachments in the next three months.

The minister claimed the department has already been carrying out a plantation drive on the cleared lands. He said that the removal of encroachment from forest land will continue till the removal of the last encroachment.

He said that as a humble and befitting to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on 550th Parkash Purab, a special drive was embarked by the state government and 76 lakh saplings have already been planted in Punjab.

He stated that panchayats were given plants by the department and were also taking care of their nurturing. Besides, the residents were provided saplings through ‘i-hariyali’ app under the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’, he added.

On the occasion, Congress leaders Ashok Gupta, Yashpal Dhiman, KK Bansal and others were present.
