Two snatchers including a Delhi student held for snatching under safe city project

PHAGWARA: Within two days after the launch of the Safe City Project in Phagwara, the police have successfully solved a purse snatching case with a doctor in local Mast Nagar and arrested two accused including Delhi University student.
The accused have been identified as Harsh Kumar (28) and Sandeep Kumar (22) of Khalwara Gate, Phagwara. Harsh Kumar studies in B.Com First year student at Delhi University (DU).
Disclosing further details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that two of the accused had snatched purse from Activa scooter (PB-36-F-5341) belonging to Dr Renu Bala of GB Hospital from outside her house in Mast Nagar in Phagwara two days back.
SSP Khakh said that after receiving the information, the newly launched PCR Patrol motorcycle under Safe city project immediately reached the spot and scanned the CCTV’s installed in the vicinity.
The police teams, using the technical gadgets identified the snatchers from the CCTV footage and nabbed both of them besides recovered the purse and the bike used to commit the crime, said SSP Khakh.
He said that a case under various sections of IPC has been registered against them and police teams would produce the arrested accused before the magistrate. He said that police would seek their police remand for further investigation regarding other thefts or crimes committed by them. He said that both have been facing various cases in the police stations of the district.
SSP told that the Safe City Project has been yielding good results and ensuring effective policing by zeroing on the criminals.
