Election model code of conduct comes to an end with immediate effect

CHANDIGARH: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has lifted the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) with immediate effect, which came into force on March 10, 2019 with the announcement of schedule for General Elections.

Disclosing this here today, the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju said that the ECI issued a letter to the Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of all the states and Union Territories, in this regard. In a written communication the ECI has stated that now the results in respect of Lok Sabha-2019 polls have been declared. Consequently, the Model Code of Conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect, he added.
