Parkash Purab celebrations at Rayat Bahra Varsity

MOHALI: Bhai Malkit Singh, Head Granthi, Sri Akal Takht, said that Guru Nanak Dev ji was strongly against all artificially created divisions and all discrimination, both in word and deed. He said the Guru preached that the caste of a person is based on what he does and his idea of a caste-free society transpired also in his concepts of Sangat and Pangat.

Bhai Malkit Singh, was speaking as Chief Guest at a seminar on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev organised at the Rayat Bahra University here as part of three-day celebrations of a programme in celebration of 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

He said Guru Nanak Dev ji passed the message of universal brotherhood. The Guru said that religion is not mere consistence of words but actually looks all men and women equally.

Dr Manmohan Singh, a scholar, speaking at the seminar said that the Guru preached “kirat karo, Wand chako” (Do some work to earn bread and share your earning among needy). Guru Nanak Dev ji appreciated the person who worked hard to earn his livelihood and distributed some part from his earning to the needy persons.Prof Balwinder singh Jaura singha also shared his views on the topic.

Dr Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor said that Universal brotherhood is a strong theme in Gurbani written by Guru Nanak Devji. In our prayer, we say this line towards the end of daily Ardaas – “Nanak Naam Chardi Kala Tere Bhane Sarbat da bhala”.  “We request Him for the welfare of the whole humanity and not just of our community or our family alone”, he added.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, welcomed the speakers at the seminar while Dr Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, proposed a vote of thanks.

Bhog of the Akhand Path started on the first day of the celebrations was held today which was followed by langar wherein a large number of students and faculty members partook.
