Kia Motors creates buzz, opens first showroom in India

February 27, 2019 04:41 PM

Kia Motors, the sister company of Hyundai Motors, has been garnering a lot of attention these days. The inauguration of their maiden showroom in India and teasing a lot of new models has created a lot of buzz around the company. Following the recent shift from conventionally powered cars to electrical powered cars, Kia has decided to unveil an all-new EV concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

In the words of the company, the new concept car will be "a visual embodiment of the company's desire to move forward in the exciting world of electrification." Kia is not ready to show us the car just yet but they have released a teaser of the car which shows the striking front fascia bejeweled with awe-inspiring pair of LED headlights, the front of the car looks muscular and gels well with the low slung stance of the car. Placing cameras instead of OVRMs is the latest trend and Kia motors have embraced. Most of the car’s exterior is not visible in the image. The new Kia concept is going to follow a bold and striking design scheme quite unlike any other Kia vehicle.

A lot of car enthusiast tend to stay away from electric cars due to a number of reasons ranging from lack of theatricals to missing raw feel of an internal combustion engine. According to Gregory Guillaume the vice president of design at Kia Motors Europe, the sole purpose of automobile design is to capture the heart and soul of people and the nature of the car’s engine holds little importance. Shedding more light on the design, Guillaume explained that with this concept EV, the sole aim of the company is to provide all round experience to the consumer which not only give solution to questions related to range, performance, recharging networks, and driving dynamism but also designing the car in such a way that it embodies the spirit of a utilitarian design. The company is leaving no stones unturned to ensure that everybody feels right at home in these new electric vehicles.

Although the company has envisioned the car for European markets, the concept vehicle was designed at Kia’s headquarters in Frankfurt. It would be no big surprise if this car was to reach the Indian shores in the near future. Electrification is on a new high in India with the government being very keen on introducing all-electric vehicles in the country.

The launch of the concept vehicle is some time away as of now. So, determining the public’s reaction with a teaser is nothing but a big question mark at the moment. One thing that can’t be ruled out is, the new concept can be just a design-centric car that is meant to be showcased and it is unlikely for the car to be mass produced, which is fine. Electric cars are but a minor portion of Kia’s international lineup of cars, which includes some really great cars, some of which would be extremely popular with Indian consumers.

The only certain thing here is the commitment that all the major car companies are heading towards an electric future.
