SKM likely to wind up year long farmers agitation after center's consent to accept all demands

CHANDIGARH: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) is expected to soon end year long farmer agitation in protest against three agriculture laws, now revoked by center government. The SKM has agreed on draft proposals of center government regarding pending demands incljuding MSP for all crops and cancellation of criminal cases against farmers registered in various states.

The SKM leaders today after a long meeting announced that they have agreed on the draft proposals sent by the center and told the Union government to send the same draft in the shape of acceptance letter. The draft letter sent by the center government was discusssed by five member committee of farmer leaders.

Gurnam Singh Chanduni after the meeting announced that they had rejected the first proposal sent by the center and got revised draft letter today. He said that contents of letter were discussed and all members of SKM had agreed on proposals. Now another meeting of SKM would be held tonorrow at 12 AM and decision to postpone or end the agitation will be taken. He said that ball was now in court of the government.

It is recalled that farmers from Punjab had started their agitation on November 26, 2020 and they were detailed on Delhi borders. Later the farmers from Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and other states alsp joined the agitation. The center government had lst week repealed the controversial farm bills. The farmers were demanding to pass a bill for MSP on all crops. The center has agreet to form a committee on MSP.

More than 700 farmers had lost their lives during the agitation. SKM is also demanding compensation for the farmers who died during the agitation. Center understood to ahve agreed on the demand. Punjab government has already given Rs.5 lakh to kin of each deceased farmer and job for one member of the family.
