Shahkot health centre awaits upgrade to civil hospital

ASHOK KAURA | February 06, 2023 06:12 PM

SHAHKOT : Over 26 years have passed since Shahkot was accorded the status of subdivision, but the town still waits for the up gradation of the health centre to a civil hospital. Shahkot community health centre (CHC), the thirty-bedded community health center built over twenty-seven years ago is catering to residents of the town and adjoining rural areas.

The money sought from the Punjab government for new building and upgrading to a 50 bedded civil hospital has not been received so far.

Sources said the Punjab government prepared a proposal in 2013 to construct a 50-bed hospital at Shahkot and medical authorities submitted all details, but the proposal is still pending. The government has posted here specialists instead of medical officers.

including the surgeon, medical specialist, eve surgeon, paediatrician, gynaecologist, and dental surgeon who have left their job, and now the health department has posted three medical officers after public protests’.

expecting mothers are referred to Jalandhar civil hospital free scan facility as CHC has no scanning machine. Due to the rush, two days are required for the scan at Jalandhar civil hospital.

Similarly, CHC has no laparoscopic machine for surgery and a Phaco machine for conducting contact lens surgery.

The local people are upset that the government has failed to upgrade the CHC to a civil hospital and whenever need be, they are referred to Nakodar and Jalandhar.
