SGPC president forms joint committee on release of Sikh prisoners

AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has constituted a nine-member committee for joint Panthic efforts to secure the release of long-term detainees in various jails across the country.
The meeting of the nine member committee will be held at SGPC office here on May 19 to discuss about release of Sikh detainees who completed their imprisonment.
Various Panthic leaders have been made members of this committee.
A Panthic meeting was convened by SGPC on May 11 at the historic Teja Singh Samundri Hall on the orders of the Akal Takht, during which the authority to set up a joint committee was unanimously handed SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. Under this he has announced this joint committee.
In this 9 member committee formed by Advocate Dhami he (Shiromani Committee President) besides Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, President of Shiromani Akali Dal.
On behalf of Sant Samaj, Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa, head of Damdami Taksal, Baba Nihal Singh, head of Tarna Dal Harian Velan from Nihang Singh organizations, President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Mr Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi. Paramjit Singh Sarna, former president of the Delhi Committee. Manjit Singh GK and Sikh Pracharak Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal are included.

President of the SGPC Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that at present a 9 member committee has been constituted for joint national efforts for the release of Bandi Singhs. He said that during this time the suggestions received from the Sikh organizations would also be respected and the committee could be expanded as required.
