PHAGWARA: Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal held a discussion with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann regarding the construction of a paved road from Gidderpindi to Phillaur along the Dhussi Bund of the Sutlej River to strengthen the embankment. After the meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Sant Seechewal stated that the proposed road will be 89 kilometers long and 18 feet wide.
He mentioned that the first meeting regarding this project was held on June 12, 2023, at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh. A letter had also been written to the Chief Minister in this regard. The meeting was led by then Cabinet Minister Meet Hayer. The Punjab State Mandi Board, in its report, had stated that constructing a road on the Dhussi Bund would strengthen the embankment. The board estimated the project cost to be around ₹117 crore. During today’s meeting, Sant Seechewal said that the road was to be constructed with the assistance of NABARD.
He urged the Chief Minister to initiate the construction before the monsoon season so that people in flood-prone areas can get relief. He further informed that at Mandala Chhanna, where four houses were washed away by the Sutlej River, a 2200-foot-long vulnerable stretch of the Dhussi Bund is being reinforced with stone pitching. In this stretch, 13 studs and 2 spurs are being constructed. The target is to complete this work before the monsoon. *Box Item: Chief Minister to visit Budha Dariya* Sant Seechewal stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is very serious about eliminating pollution in Budha Dariya. He assured that he will visit by the end of April to review the ongoing cleaning work. During the meeting, Sant Seechewal also shared a proposal and presented a draft plan to make Budha Dariya pollution-free.
