Jathedar Akal Takht and SGPC President released the calendar of Nanakshahi Sammat 558

AMRITSAR: The Nanakshahi calendar for the year 558 (2026-27) was released today from Sri Akal Takht Sahib by Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in the presence of prominent personalities here today. This time, the Nanakshahi calendar has been dedicated to the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji and the centenary of the 400th foundation day of Sri Kiratpur Sahib.

On the occasion of releasing the calendar, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj appealed to the Sikh world and said that the new year of the Sikhs begins from 1 Chet (March 14) and on this day, it should be inaugurated by holding a Gurmat Samagam in every Gurdwara Sahib.

Jathedar Gargaj said that the Sikh community is proud to have its own calendar that reflects its originality and uniqueness and it is the duty of every Sikh to celebrate Gurpurab and other historical days according to the Nanakshahi calendar.

He also appealed to the Sikh world to install the Nanakshahi calendar in every Guru-ghar and their respective homes.

On this occasion, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this year, the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji and the 400th foundation anniversary of Sri Kiratpur Sahib will be celebrated by the nation with chardi kala and panthic pomp.

He said that the outline of the events to be held by the SGPC in connection with the centenary of the birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji will be drawn up in collaboration with the community.

Similarly, work will be done to make the 400th foundation anniversary of Sri Kiratpur Sahib a memorable one with the cooperation of all Sikh organizations and sects. Advocate Dhami, mentioning the 300th martyrdom anniversary of Bhai Tara Singh Wan, said that the SGPC will organize centenary events from 11 to 14 March 2026 at Village Wan, District Tarn Taran.

While he appealed to the devotees to participate in these centenary celebrations, he also asked them to attend the Gurmat Samagam being held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall on the night of March 13 on the occasion of the commencement of Nanakshahi Sammat 558.
