Jalandhar Commissionerate police bust major drug haul in Ludhiana

JALANDHAR:Following the interrogation of the two Ludhiana residents from whom cops had seized 27000 intoxicant tablets and capsule on October 14, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police unearthed one of biggest drug haul by seizing a huge cache of intoxicant capsules and tablets worth Rs 2.01 crore from a house during 14-hours long search in densely populated Chet Singh Nagar, Ludhiana.
The team of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police with the help of the Ludhiana drug department also recovered medicines worth Rs 1 crore under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.
The third accused has been identified as Vikas Bansal is absconding in the case.
Divulging more details, the Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a team led by ACP (Crime against Women) Dharam Pal, CIA staff-2 head Ashwani Kumar, SHO PS-8 Kamaljeet Singh raided a house in Chet Singh Nagar, Ludhiana on October 17 night, on the instance of accused Piyush Arora (arrested on October 14) .
He said the team called the local Municipal Councillor at the spot and went inside the house and sealed the four rooms in his presence.
“On next morning, Commissionerate police contacted local drug department and team headed by Ludhiana Zonal Licensing Authority Kulwinder Singh, drug inspectors Rooppreet Kaur, Sandeep Kaushik, Amit Lakhanpal, Lajwinder Kumar, and Gurpreet Singh Sodhi reached there. Then, the team scanned all four rooms along with Municipal Councillor and one relative of accused Vikas Bansal and found several boxes stored there” Gurpreet Singh Bhullar added.
He said the team recovered 4.65 lakh Buprenorphine tablets, 3.61 lakh tramadol tablets, 58000 Alprazolam Tablets, 4.19 lakh Clonazepam tablets, 1.17 lakh Tramadol Capsules and 1149 Codeine syrups taking the total to 13.85 lakh tablets, 1.17 lakh capsules and 1149 bottles worth Rs 2.01 crore from the boxes.
Apart from this, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, the drugs department also confiscated 11.49 lakh tablets, 10000 injections and 6000 syrups under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.
He said that the recovery of a huge cache of intoxicant tablets and capsules will help to break the drugs’ supply chain in the area.
Bhullar stated that the seizing of Buprenorphine from the house is really shocking as this drug is mandated to be supplied directly to drug de-addiction centres by manufacturers.
Commissioner of Police said the in-depth investigation is being carried out to know the source of the drugs and arrest absconding Vikas Bansal.
He said that the crackdown against the drugs would continue till Punjab becomes drug-free.
