AMRITSAR: The shaheedi Divas of 9th Sikh Guru Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji was observed with great enthusiasm here today. Thousand of devotees took a holy dip on the sacred sarovar of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.
The religious diwan (Congregation) was held at Gurdwara Guru Ka Mahal birth place of Guru Teg Bahadur Jo Several raagis dhadis preachers recited the Gurbani kirtan and thrown the light of teachings of the Guru.
It may be mentioned that Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor of India, wanted to unite India into one Islamic nation.
To achieve this he set out to eradicate Hinduism from India When the Ninth Guru came to know about this from a frustrated group of Hindus, he challenged the Emperor that in order to convert all Hindus, the Guru himself should accept Islam.
He sacrifices everything for righteousness. As a result, the Guru was imprisoned in 1675 on the orders of Aurangzeb. Three Sikh devotees, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala, who were with the Guru, were arrested and martyred.
Aurangzeb gave Guru Tegh Bahadur three options and the Guru refused to accept. To embrace Islam, to perform miracles, and to be ready for death. Finally, the Guru preferred the third option. On November 11, 1675, he was beheaded in front of a crowd at Chandni Chowk in Delhi in defense of his fundamental human rights.
President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji is unique in the history of the world.
The Guru removed the fear from the minds of people all over the world by giving martyrdom for the protection of religion.
He said that the martyrdom of Guru Sahib was a source of inspiration for the Sikhs as well as for the entire humanity. He recalled the Sikhs who were martyred along with Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and said that it was a blessing of Guru Sahib that the Sikhs who went with him also got martyrdom by keeping their head towards Guru.
