AMRITSAR: Family member of Sharuya Chakra holders, comrade Balwinder Singh Sandhu refused to cremate the body unless assailants are arrested.
Talking to media, Jagdish Kaur Sandhu wife of late Balwinder Singh Sandhu said, “Family would not cremate the body unless killers of Comrade Balwinder Singh arrested, besides deployment of security to the family”.
Adding further she said, “All the family members I, my late husband, his brother Ranjit Singh Sandhu and his wife Balraj Kaur Sandhu are Sharuya Chakra awardee and this award was given by the Central Government to save the union and integrity of the nation to fight against the militancy”.
“It was security as well as intelligence failure. It was also duty of central intelligence agencies with regard to our safety. Both State and Central Governments are grossly accountable for intelligence failure that resulted killing of my husband at the hands of terrorists”, she quipped.
She said if state government remained failed to provide security cover to the family; it also became the responsibility of Central Government to do the needful.
“Family always fought against terrorists. As many as 62 attempts were made on family by group of terrorists and all the 62 incidents were registered with the Police. We have made numerous requests to State DGPC Mr. Dinker Gupta on his mail id to return our security cover besides personal meetings with SSP, DIG and IG concerned but all in vain. Everybody knew it, during Referendum 2020 of SFJ many suspected people were arrested in the past few months and in such circumstances police were time and again requested to provide us security cover but they didn’t listen”.
Sharuya Chakra holder, comrade Balwinder Singh (62) was shot dead from point blank range by two unidentified assailants yesterday at his residence of border village Bhikiwind falling in the Tarn Taran district.
