AMRITSAR: Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar won the vacant post of Chief Khalsa Diwan President by secret ballot system today and Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar was elected as the new President of the Diwan.
It may be recalled that due to the demise of former Chief Khalsa Diwan President Nirmal Singh on March 5, the Vice President Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar was serving as the Acting President as per the Constitution.
Before starting the election process for the post of Chief Khalsa Diwan President, the members of the Diwan bowed before Dhan Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and prayed to Akal Purakh for the smooth completion of the election process for the post of Chief Khalsa Diwan President. Under the supervision of Mr. Narinder Singh Khurana and Mr. Harjit Singh Tarn Taran the election process was started in a very disciplined and smooth manner during which special care was taken for the convenience of the sick, the elderly and the members coming from outside the station. After the results were declared after the counting of votes under the supervision of Observer Tajinder Singh Khalsa, the winning candidate Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar at Gurdwara Kalgidhar Sahib thanked for the immense grace showered by Guru Sahib.
On this occasion Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar was honored by the Diwan members as the new President of the Diwan with the blessings of Guru Sahib. On this occasion Chief Khalsa Diwan Honorary Secretary Mr. Savinder Singh Kathunangal and Honorary Secretary Mr. Ajit Singh Basra also congratulated Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar on his victory. After the èlection , Dr Nijjar while addressing the media persons the press said that he would perform his service as the President diligently.
He urged the members of the Diwan to rise above factionalism and work for the development and rising art of the Diwan with mutual cooperation and consensus.
He also talked about making books, uniforms cheaper for CKD school students and providing free education to the economically weaker students according to their ability. He asked the Chief Khalsa Diwan to make special efforts for solar system, rainwater harvesting and greenery in all CKD schools soon. On this occasion Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Prince, Member In-Charge Headquarters thanked all the members for their valuable votes and Dr. Nijjar for presiding over the Diwan.
