SANGRUR: With the continues efforts of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to bring Punjab's economy back on track, the farmers' organizations withdrew their dharna-protest from the railway tracks and allowed movement of freight and passenger trains. While expressing these views, Market Committee Sangrur Chairman Mr. Anil Kumar Gheecha said that the decision taken by the farmers' organizations was being lauded by all sections as closure of the freight trains has brought the supply of rice, coal, fertilisers and other essential items to a standstill.

The market committee chairman told that the rice-shellers of Sangrur district were having the capacity to store 3.6 crore bags out of which 1.11 crore bags were to be dispatched to other states. He added that due to the arrogant attitude of the Modi government, the blockade of trains was causing huge financial loss of millers and commission agents.

Mr. Anil Kumar Gheecha said that with the resumption of rail services in Punjab, 17 specials have been allocated for Sangrur district through which 1.19 crore rice bags have been dispatched for various locations in the country. He added that in Sangrur block, 3.5 lakh rice bags were stuck due to rail blockade but after the efforts of the state government, 2.10 lakh bags have been dispatched through special trains.

Meanwhile, Arhti Association Sangrur's president Mr. Somnath Bansal also expressed gratitude on the behalf of commission agents and said that the resumption of supply of stalled rice from the shellers, has resolved their major issue as now there would be ample space available for the storage of freshly milled paddy of this procurement season. He also appealed to the farmers that they should also avoid staging dharna on railway tracks as it had already cost dear to Punjab's economy.
