UIET Dedicates Library in Memory of Founder Director Prof. Balwinder Singh Sohi
CHANDIGARH: The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, Chandigarh, dedicated its library to the memory of its Founder Director, Prof. Balwinder Singh Sohi, during a solemn ceremony held on the institute campus.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig presided over the inauguration ceremony, which was hosted by UIET Director Prof. Sukhwinder Singh and attended by Mrs. Harbhajan Kaur Sohi, wife of the late Prof. Sohi; PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma, Director, RDC Prof. Savita Gupta; Dean Student Welfare Prof. Yogesh Rawal; former Directors of UIET, Prof. J.K. Goswamy and Prof. Sanjeev Puri; along with faculty members, staff and students of Panjab University.
The newly dedicated Prof. B.S. Sohi Library stands as a lasting tribute to the extraordinary vision, leadership and unwavering commitment of Prof. Sohi, whose pioneering efforts laid the foundation of UIET and transformed it into one of the premier engineering institutions in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig fondly remembered Prof. Sohi as a visionary educationist, an inspiring mentor and a distinguished institution builder whose legacy continues to guide generations of students and faculty. She remarked that dedicating the library in his honour was a fitting recognition of his lifelong commitment to engineering education and knowledge creation.
Director RDC Prof. Savita Gupta recalled her learnings from Prof Sohi as a student and later as a colleague. Prof. Goswamy extolled his virtues, having worked closely with him. Prof. Puri said he was the foundation of UIET and a father figure. Prof. Verma said his values would always guide us.
As a mark of respect and gratitude, a Memorial Citation highlighting Prof. Sohi’s exceptional contributions to technical education, Panjab University, and the establishment and growth of UIET was read by Prof. Sukhwinder Singh and presented by the PU Vice Chancellor to Mrs. Harbhajan Kaur Sohi, wife of the late Prof. Sohi. Mrs. Sohi expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Panjab University and the UIET fraternity for honouring his enduring legacy.
