PAU celebrates the enduring power of memories with release of Yaadan Da Phulldasta
LUDHIANA: In an evocative celebration of literature, memory and human emotions, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today hosted the release of the Punjabi book Yaadan Da Phulldasta (A Bouquet of Memories), authored by Jasmer Singh Dhatt, Chairman, Sabhiyacharak Sathh Punjab. The literary gathering, organized by the PAU Young Writers’ Association, under the aegis of the Directorate Students’ Welfare, PAU, brought together writers, academicians and lovers of Punjabi literature to honour a work that delicately preserves the fragrance of cherished memories.
Releasing the book, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, described memories as the invisible threads that bind generations, nurture relationships and preserve the essence of a society’s cultural heritage. Congratulating the author, he remarked that Yaadan Da Phulldasta is not merely a collection of recollections, but an emotional journey through the landscapes of life, where every memory blossoms like a flower in a bouquet. He observed that in an age of fleeting moments and digital distractions, books such as these remind us of the enduring value of human experiences, relationships and emotions; thereby connecting us to our cultural and social roots.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kamaljit Singh Suri, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, said that universities are not merely centres of scientific and professional education but also custodians of literature, culture and human values. He observed that books such as Yaadan Da Phulldasta encourage readers to pause amidst the fast pace of modern life and reconnect with the memories, relationships and experiences that shape their personalities.
Dr Nirmal Jaura, former Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, also described the book as a heartfelt tribute to the beauty of lived experiences. He observed that the author’s lucid and sensitive narration transforms ordinary moments into enduring literary impressions, reminding readers that memories are not merely remnants of the past but living companions that guide the present and inspire the future. He appreciated the simplicity, sincerity and emotional depth that characterize the author’s writing.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director Culture, PAU, said that Yaadan Da Phulldasta is a celebration of life’s unforgettable moments, woven together with sincerity and sensitivity. Congratulating the author, she said that literary pursuits enrich our emotional intelligence and cultural consciousness, making us more compassionate and socially responsible individuals.
Sharing his thoughts, Jasmer Singh Dhatt shared that Yaadan Da Phulldasta is a collection of memorable experiences, emotions and reflections gathered over the years. “Every individual carries within her/him a treasure of memories that shapes their identity”, he added. Through Yaadan Da Phulldasta, he has attempted to gather those precious moments - of joy and sorrow, hope and resilience, people and places that continue to illuminate his life’s journey. He expressed the hope that readers would find echoes of their own lives in these pages and rediscover the warmth of memories that time can never erase.
Noted litterateur S. Gurbhajan Gill marked his special presence at the event. He reminisced over his shared experiences with Dhatt, elaborating on the exceptional journey that the author had carried for years to preserve cultural and heritage bonds.
Proposing the vote of thanks, Dr Bikramjit Singh, President, PAU Young Writers’ Association, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, the chief guest, the keynote speaker, the author and all the participants for making the event memorable. He reaffirmed the Association's commitment to nurturing literary creativity and promoting the rich legacy of Punjabi language and literature through meaningful literary initiatives.
The programme witnessed an enthusiastic participation of Dr Ajmer Sigh Dhatt, Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, S. Gurpreet Singh Toor, Dr Maan Singh Toor, Principal Pargat Singh Garcha, Sh Davinder Singh Lotey, Sh Jaswinder Singh Virk, Principal Manpreet Kaur Virk, S. Amarjit Singh Grewal, Adv. Kirpal Singh Kalra, Gagandeep Singh, Janmeja Singh Johal, Gurcharan Kaur Kochhar, Gulzar Singh Pandher, Hari Singh Zachak, Satish Gulati, Satvir Singh and distinguished writers, faculty members, students and literature enthusiasts, who hailed the book as a valuable contribution to contemporary Punjabi literature. Several speakers reflected on the importance of documenting personal narratives, observing that such works preserve not only individual journeys but also the collective memory of a society.
