AMRITSAR: Under the able leadership and visionary guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University continues to achieve new milestones in the fields of education, research, innovation, and social responsibility. In line with its commitment to nation-building and social responsibility, the University, under the directions of the Vice-Chancellor, has launched a special initiative to create public awareness about the citizen-centric digital services and the Citizen App introduced by the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar.
According to a communication received from the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, students of the Department of Electronics Technology will undergo a special training workshop to familiarize themselves with the newly introduced digital citizen services and service platforms. After the training, the students will educate members of the public about the use of the Citizen App, online civic services, and other digital governance facilities, besides assisting citizens in availing these services. The initiative will also provide students with practical exposure to municipal administration and digital governance.
To ensure the effective implementation of this initiative, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Ravinder Kumar of the Department of Electronics as the Nodal Officer. The programme will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Kuldeep Singh.
Prof. (Dr.) Ravinder Kumar said that the framework of the initiative was finalized during a special meeting chaired by Shri Jai Inder Singh, PCS, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Amritsar. He informed that interested students would be associated with this social welfare initiative, enabling them to contribute to society alongside their academic pursuits by creating awareness about digital citizen services and assisting the public in accessing them.
He added that the initiative would not only strengthen the outreach and effective promotion of digital citizen services but would also provide an opportunity for young students to contribute towards nation-building while gaining practical exposure to real-world municipal administration and digital governance. It is expected to be mutually beneficial for both the University and the Municipal Corporation and will serve as another significant step towards realizing the vision of Digital India.
