PHAGWARA: An unidentified man was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a vacant government room near Parshuram Park in posh locality Hargobind Nagar in Phagwara on Saturday afternoon prompting the police to launch an investigation to establish his identity and ascertain the cause of death.
According to police, information about the body was received after local residents noticed an unconscious person lying inside one of the unused government rooms situated near Parshuram Park, close to the Blood Bank in the Guru Hargobind Nagar area. A police team from City Police Station immediately reached the spot, secured the area and took possession of the body.
Following the completion of preliminary legal formalities, the body was shifted to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police officials said no identity card, mobile phone or any document capable of establishing the deceased's identity was recovered during the initial search. As a result, the deceased remains unidentified.
Authorities said efforts are underway to identify the deceased through enquiries in nearby areas and other available means. The body has been preserved in the Civil Hospital mortuary for 72 hours to facilitate identification by relatives or acquaintances.
Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.
