BATHINDA: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, Punjab Police on Friday arrested Nihang Amritpal Singh Mehron after he was deported from Dubai. Mehron had been on the run since the crime and was tracked down following an Interpol lookout notice.
According to police officials, the accused was brought to India and immediately taken into custody by the Bathinda police upon arrival. He is believed to be the key conspirator behind the brutal killing that had sent shockwaves across the region.
Police investigations revealed that the crime was meticulously planned. On June 11, 2025, Mehron, along with his associates, allegedly abducted Kanchan Kumari. She was later murdered, and in an apparent attempt to dispose of the body without drawing attention, the accused abandoned her corpse inside a car parked in the parking area of Adesh Hospital in Bathinda.
The gruesome discovery of the body had triggered widespread outrage, with demands for swift justice pouring in on social media and from various quarters. Authorities had launched an extensive manhunt soon after identifying Mehron and his accomplices as prime suspects.
During the course of the investigation, it emerged that Mehron had fled the country to evade arrest. Acting on inputs, the police initiated international procedures, leading to the issuance of a lookout notice through Interpol. He was subsequently detained in Dubai and deported back to India.
Sources said that the police are now interrogating Mehron to uncover the full conspiracy, including the roles of his associates and the motive behind the murder. Officials suspect that more arrests could follow in the coming days.
The Bathinda police have termed the arrest a significant achievement, stating that justice is now within reach for the victim and her family. Further investigation is underway.
