Canada wide warrants issued against Punjab-origin man Manpreet Singh wanted in Brampton for murder of a young girl

TORONTO: A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for 27-year-old Manpreet Singh, a Punjabi-origin man accused of killing Amanpreet Saini, 27, of North York. Saini’s body was discovered earlier this week at Charles Daley Park in Lincoln, Ontario, with multiple traumatic injuries.

According to police, the killing appears to have been a targeted attack, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Authorities, however, have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between Singh and Saini.

Police believe that Manpreet Singh fled Canada shortly after Saini’s body was found on Tuesday. He is wanted on charges of second-degree murder, and investigators are now working with international agencies to trace his whereabouts.

The case has drawn wide attention in the Indian diaspora, as online users reacted sharply to the way Canadian media described Singh as a “Brampton man.” Critics pointed out that he is of Indian origin, not a Canadian national, and accused the media of stereotyping the Brampton Sikh community.

This incident follows another high-profile case earlier this year, when Delta Police in British Columbia renewed an appeal to locate Gurkirat Singh, wanted on charges of sexually assaulting a child in 2024.

Police have urged anyone with information on Manpreet Singh’s location to contact investigators immediately. They are asking anyone with information to contact homicide investigators at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009451 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
