Khalsa College Institutions’ Huge’ Nagar Kirtan to Commemorate 554th Guru Nanak’s Parkash Purab

AMRITSAR: Khalsa College educational institutions today organized a huge religious procession ‘Nagar Kirtan’ to commemorate the 554th Parkash Purab of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Nagar Kirtan started from historic Khalsa College campus and culminated at Golden Temple’s precincts amid religious fervor and devotion.

The students from all 18 Colleges and schools under Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) exhibited a well-paraded procession and they forming queues, chanted holy hymns from Gurbani and paraded through parts of the city to reach at Harmandar Sahib.

The procession had Guru Granth Sahib placed in the well decorated palanquin, led by `Panj Paira’ (five beloveds) and participants clad in colourful dresses, recited hymns apart from raising slogans of `Bole So Nihal’, ‘Nanak Aya, Jagat Jagaya’. The display of Gatkas (Sikh martial art), music of the bands, PT Show and beating of the drums was witnessed as the students passed through GT Road, Putlighar, Sadar, Railway Station, Bhandari Bridge, Hall gate and Town Hall.

KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Office-bearers, Members Principals, Teaching and Non-teaching staff took part in the parade enthusiastically. Chhina while congratulating one and all on the occasion of Gurpurab said Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s advent was a historical event in history as he started a new faith with the message of peace and universal brotherhood.

“Now the society is unfortunately divided on the lines of caste, creed class against which Guru Nanak had raised the voice. We must follow the message of peaceful co-existence without discrimination as envisaged by Guru Ji”, said Chhina adding that as part of their century-old traditions, they organize the Nagar Kirtan, one of the largest of its kind anywhere in the world, annually.

KCGC Joint Secretaries Gunbir Singh, Ajmer Singh Heir, Paramjit Singh Bal, Members, Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, Lakhwinder Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Singh Gill, Daljit Singh Sandhu, Sarbjit Singh Hoshiar Nagar, Principals Dr. Mehal Singh, Dr. Surinder Kaur, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. Rk Dhawan, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani, Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Dr. Manju Bala, Hariesh Kumar Verma, Principal Nanak Singh, Principal Gurdev Singh, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Principal Puneet Kaur Nagpal, Principal AS Gill, Principal Gurinderjit Kaur, Nirmaljeet Kaur and others were present.
