Cultural fiesta marks Teej celebrations at DBU

MANDI GOBINDGARH: Desh Bhagat University and The Himalayan Foundation celebrated Teej. The event was organized by the Youth welfare Department in collaboration with the Faculty of Performing Arts and Media and the Centre for Punjabi Language, Folklore and Culture.

Dr. Renu Sharma, Assistant Professor, welcomed Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, as chief guest, and Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University as special guest of the event. The celebrations started with a lamp lighting ceremony.

Dr. Tajinder Kaur congratulated the departments for organising this event. Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that Teej is a traditional festival for girls in Punjab. She emphasised the importance of tradition and heritage. The festival of Teej brings exuberance and chance to get along each other. Young girls actively participate in events taking place in various towns and districts in Punjab. Celebration of Teej begins from the third day off Sawan.

Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, congratulated everybody and extended his good wishes to the staff and students.

Dr. Renu Sharma said that students from various departments performed dances and sang melodious Punjabi songs. Various activities and competitions were organized in which, mehndi, rangoli, modeling were included.

Miss Teej competition was also organised in whichTanveen Kaur, from the Management Department, won the title of Miss Teej. At the end of the event the folk dances of Punjab, Giddha and Bhangra, in traditional colourful Punjabi dresses, were performed by the students which was the main attraction of the celebration.
