Sumit scores fluent win against Sousa in Buenos Aires Challenger

CHANDIGARH: Converting 67 percent of break points (6/9) in comparison to 50 percent (1/2) by his opponent Joao Sousa of Portugal, ranked 100th, Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal, ranked 150th, dropped just two games as he raced to a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 verdict in the first round of the $411, 940 ATP Tennis Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday.
Sumit, who originally hails from Jhajjar (Haryana) took just 70 minutes to dispose of the challenge of his rival in straight sets. Sumit today committed just one double fault while his rival committed four double faults. Sumit's first service was 77 per cent while Sousa's was 43 per cent.
Sumit saved one break point (1/2) while his rival saved three of nine breakpoints.
The Indian player will now cross swords with second seed Cristian Garin, ranked 22nd, of Chile in the round of 16. Garin got a first round bye.
