SGPC president writes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate reopening of Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor
AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, demanding the immediate reopening of the corridor of Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Kartarpur Sahib located in Pakistan.
In the letter written by Advocate Dhami, it was said that Sri Kartarpur Sahib is the holy land where Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, along with the teachings of labor, chanting the name and avoiding division, gave the message of brotherhood and the welfare of all.
He said that the feelings of the Sikh Sangat are attached to this holy place and the Sangat always yearns to visit it.
The letter said that the opening of the corridor for the darshan of Sri Kartarpur Sahib in November 2019 on the occasion of the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had fulfilled the daily prayers of Sikhs from all over the world and lakhs of devotees had paid homage to Guru Sahib by visiting this holy place. The closure of the corridor due to the security situation in both countries some time ago has caused deep disappointment and anguish in the Sikh community across the world.
The letter also reminded that the demand to reopen the corridor is not new. The SGPC has conveyed the sentiments of the Sikh community to the government through resolutions many times. In this regard, a memorandum was also sent to the Governor of Punjab and the Union Home Minister, demanding immediate action in this matter.
In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, it has been said that the reopening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor is not only a convenience for religious pilgrimage, but also a respect for the religious sentiments of lakhs of pilgrims. Through the letter, they have appealed to the Prime Minister that keeping in mind the special religious significance of this holy place related to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the religious sentiments of crores of Sikhs around the world, this matter should be considered on priority basis and instructions should be issued to the concerned ministries to take necessary diplomatic and administrative steps for the immediate reopening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed confidence that the central government would consider this emotional appeal of the Sikh community with compassion and sensitivity, so that devotees from all over the world can once again pay homage at Sri Kartarpur Sahib.
