Reopen the Kartarpur Corridor; India's Security Agencies Are Fully Capable of Handling Every Challenge: Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala
AMRITSAR: Punjab BJP spokesperson and Sikh thinker Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to initiate the necessary diplomatic and administrative measures for the reopening of the Shri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. He said that Kartarpur Sahib occupies a central place in the faith of Sikhs and that depriving millions of devotees of its darshan for a prolonged period is a matter deeply connected with their religious sentiments.
Prof. Khiala said he fully respects the Government of India's priority of safeguarding national security. There can be no compromise with the nation's unity, integrity and security. However, he noted that the prevailing circumstances also present certain facts which warrant a serious review of the possibility of reopening the Kartarpur Corridor.
He pointed out that even after the suspension of the Corridor, two officially approved Sikh jathas have successfully travelled to Pakistan through the Attari border to visit historic Sikh shrines, while a third jatha is preparing to undertake the pilgrimage. If such visits can be conducted successfully under established government procedures, visa regulations and stringent security checks, he said, there is sufficient reason to positively examine reopening the Kartarpur Corridor under an equally robust security protocol.

Prof. Khiala observed that India's security agencies have repeatedly demonstrated exceptional professionalism in combating terrorism, safeguarding the borders and maintaining internal security. Equipped with advanced technology, an effective intelligence network and stringent surveillance mechanisms, they are fully capable of addressing every security challenge. Therefore, he expressed confidence that the agencies can ensure the safe and secure operation of the Kartarpur Corridor as well. National security and the religious aspirations of the Sikh community, he added, should be viewed as complementary rather than conflicting objectives.
Describing the Corridor as much more than a border crossing, Prof. Khiala said it represents the Gurmat vision of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
He stated that the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected the BJP-led Government's goodwill towards the Sikh community and fulfilled a long-cherished aspiration of Sikhs after nearly seven decades. He said the decision was widely welcomed by Sikhs across the world as a historic gift. He further noted that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) honoured Prime Minister Modi with the "Qaumi Sewa Award", hailing him as a "Messiah" for facilitating the opening of the Corridor.
He said reopening the Corridor would not only bring immense spiritual satisfaction to millions of Sikh devotees across the globe but would also reinforce India's enduring commitment to religious freedom, cultural heritage and humanitarian values.
