Punjab Govt Stands Firm With Farmers, Modi govt Will have to Withdraw Anti- Farmer Policies

PATIALA:Punjab Minister for Forests, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities and Printing, Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh was fully committed to the farmers and agriculture. He said "Punjab Government rejects all the anti-farmer policies in the shape of three ordinances that are being converted to legislation by Modi Government at the center and State would do its duty to safeguard the rights of Punjab including farmers."
Mr. Dharamsot arrived at District Administrative Complex, Patiala today to participate in the two day Virtual Farmers' Fair being organized by Punjab Agricultural University. The farmers' fair was inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh through video conferencing.
In his address on this occasion, the Cabinet Minister said that the farmers of Punjab had worked hard after the independence to make the country self-sufficient in food production and also taught the farmers of other states how to cultivate to get more yield. He said that it was most unfortunate that the Modi Government was ignoring the sacrifices and hard work of the farmers of Punjab who were the food growers of the country.
Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh first safeguarded the river waters of Punjab, then waived off the agricultural debts upto Rs 2 Lakh and now he is again fighting for the protection of the rights of the farmers and Punjab. Mr. Dharamsot said that he hoped that the struggle of the farmers to make the country self-reliant in food grains would not go unnoticed and the Modi Government would have to withdraw these three anti-farmer policies.
Mr. Dharamsot said that this two day online farmers' fair being organized by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana would not only educate the farmers about the management of paddy straw and direct sowing of paddy but also about water saving and allied occupations in agriculture. .
Urging the farmers not to set fire to the paddy straw, Mr. Dharamsot said that the objective of the 'Virtual Kisan Mela' was "Don't burn the straw, take care of the soil and water, take care of your Punjab". He appealed to the farmers to reap the benefits of farming with the opinion of the experts of the Agricultural University.
During the launch of the virtual Kisan Mela, PRTC Chairman K.K. Sharma, Punjab Social Welfare Board Chairperson Mrs. Gursharan Kaur Randhawa, Municipal Corporation Mayor Mr. Sanjeev Sharma Bittu, District Planning Committee Chairman Mr. Santokh Singh, Chairman Improvement Trust Mr. Sant Banga, Raj Kaur Chairperson Zilha Parishad, Senior Vice Chairman Punjab Large Scale Industry Board Mr. K.K. Sehgal, Pungrain Director Rajneesh Shorey, District Congress (Urban) President K.K. Malhotra, District Congress (Rural)President Gurdeep Singh Untsar, President Women Cell Mrs. Kiran Dhillon, Youth Congress (Rural) President Mr. Sanjeev Sharma and President (Urban) Mr. Anuj Khosla were also present.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar Amit, ADC Mrs. Pooja Sayal Grewal, Assistant Commissioner (G) Dr. Ismat Vijay Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer S. Inderpal Singh Sandhu, DSP Puneet Chahal, Agriculture Development Officer Progressive farmers including Avninder Singh Mann were also present.
