AMRITSAR: The Panchayat elections to be held on 15 October in Punjab are not being fair but the Aam Aadmi Party is looting it. Secretaries in the blocks are neither sitting on their seats nor are they listening to any officer. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said these words while visiting BDPO offices of different blocks of Amritsar today.
Listening to the difficulties being faced by people in BDPO offices of Attari, Chogawan, Harshachhina, Ajnala and Majitha, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla took a dig at the state government that instead of pushing such people around, it is better to directly put up lists because whatever is happening is not an election but a pushover. He has taken seriously the rigging in the Panchayat elections and the inconvenience caused to the people. When MP Aujla reached Block Harsha Chhina, he expressed serious concern over the mockery of democracy in the ongoing Panchayat elections and warned the government. He alleged that the Secretary of the Panchayat Department, BDP and BDPO are currently working under the pressure of the state government and are openly harassing people. Due to which Panch-Sarpanch candidates are facing difficulties in filling nomination papers. Neither the Panchayat Secretary nor the BDPO are seen in the BDO offices, due to which there is an uproar among the people for NOC and receipt of Chulha Tax.
MP Aujla said that whatever attitude has been shown towards the villages by the BDO, BDPO, Panchayat Secretary in the recent past, the government is being supported to hide it, but MP Aujla warned that the law is equal for everyone and he will get everyone's inquiry done. He also appealed to the Election Commission that there are still two days left, so the elections should be conducted in a fair manner because Panchayat elections are the basic elections of the country but the right to vote is being snatched away from the people.
MP Aujla also told those bidding for the Panchayat not to go in the wrong direction. Bidding means that influential people are snatching the right to vote of the poor, so hold elections and then get development done after winning. On this occasion, Congress Rural Head Harpratap Singh Ajnala, Sarpanch Sukhraj Singh Randhawa and others were present with him.
