Leaders from across party line recalls Sardar Buta Singh’s role in nation building and securing its unity

PHAGWARA: An indebted nation today paid floral tributes to former Union Home Minister and former Governor Sardar Buta Singh on his birth anniversary.

In a simple but impressive function organised by Sardar Buta Singh foundation here at the Lovely Professional University today, the former Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr Charanjeet Singh Atwal, Chairman of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Joginder Singh Mann, Communist leader Mr Mangat Ram Pasla, Akali leader Mr Chandan Grewal and Vice Chairman Dalit Bhalai Board Punjab Mr Amrit Khosla paid tributes to the departed leader, who had carved a niche for himself in national politics while originating from a humble beginning.

All the leaders unequivocally recalled the contribution of Sardar Buta Singh in building the modren day India, while being at helms of affairs as Minister of 17 departments in Government of India. They also recalled the immense contribution of Sardar Buta Singh in protecting the unity and integrity of the country without even bothering for his political interests. Describing Sardar Buta Singh as a national mass leader they said that the fact that he was elected to Parliament eight times ( four times each from Punjab and Rajasthan) reflects his strong mass base amongst the people.

The leaders said that Sardar Buta Singh had a record of winning from Rajasthan as an independent candidate by a massive margin of 1.65 lakh votes, which remains unsurpassed even today. They said that the former Union Home Minister played a decisive role in resolving several vex issues confronted by the country during his tenure. They also said that Sardar Buta Singh brought fame for the country as Chairman of Organising Committee of Asian games which successfully held Asiad 1982.

On the occasion Mr Daljeet Singh Raju, Mr Avtar Singh Pandwa, Mr Varun Bangar Chak Hakim, Mr Harji Mann, Railway trade Union leader Mr Gulzar Singh, President All India Rangretta Dal Mr Joginder Singh Tiger, Mr Avtar Singh, Mr Fateh Veer Singh, Mr Surjit Lal, Mr Jagdish Kumar, Mr Kulwinder Singh Gakhal, Dr Surinder Kalyan and others were also present.
