Industrialists hopeful for better business as train operations resume in Punjab

SANGRUR:District Sangrur’s Industrial Chamber President Mr. Ghanshyam Kansal, on Wednesday, welcomed the decision of farmers’ unions to allow the movement of trains in Punjab and thanked Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for his timely intervention to pursue the agitating farmers to clear the rail tracks for the economical benefit of the state.

Mr. Kansal said that the industrialists were also paying heavy price of the rail blockade as the farmers were sitting on rail tracks from last two months due to the ignorant attitude of the Union government. He added that industry in Sangrur district alone faced the loss of Rs. 4, 000 crore due to rail blockade as industrial units failed to dispatch prepared material of Rs. 2, 200 crore and raw material worth Rs. 1, 800 crore was also remained stuck on various locations.

Mr. Ghanshyam Kansal said that due to the rail blockade, the industry in Sangrur district was facing acute shortage of raw material but now with the resumption of goods and freight trains, the industrialists were hopeful for better business. He added that around 400 containers of Sangrur’s industrial units, loaded with raw material, were stuck at various stations including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Rajpura. He said that apart from other industries, the Ricela Group was in huge trouble as their products being exported to around 17 countries was unable to reach the ports. He added that with the resumption of passenger trains, the issue of shortage of labour would also be addressed.

The Industrial Chamber president said that the concerns of all the sections of society have always been taken care of by the state government and they were thankful of the chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh for this positive development in Punjab.
