Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Visits Kapurthala, Targets Punjab Government Over Civic Polls and Law & Order
KAPURTHALA: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday visited the Mata Bhadrakali Temple at Sheikhupur in Kapurthala, where he offered prayers and wished for peace, prosperity and well-being of the people. During his visit, the Haryana Chief Minister also addressed a range of political issues, launching a sharp attack on the Punjab government over the conduct of recent civic body elections and the state’s law and order situation.
Alleging large-scale irregularities in the recently concluded municipal elections, Saini claimed that law and order norms were openly violated and votes were stolen on a significant scale. He accused the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of working in tandem and said that the decision to hold elections through ballot papers reflected the ruling government’s fear of electoral defeat. According to him, the manner in which the elections were conducted raised serious questions about the democratic process in the state.
On the issue of political alliances, Saini reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not require support from any other political party and would contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections independently. He asserted that the party would continue to promote and strengthen its dedicated workers and leaders, while dismissing speculation that leaders from Congress or AAP were in contact with the BJP.
Speaking about the BJP’s organisational structure in Punjab, Saini expressed confidence that the party would grow stronger under the leadership of newly appointed Punjab BJP president Keval Singh Dhillon. He said party workers were united and committed to expanding the BJP’s presence in the state, adding that the party would deliver a much stronger performance in future elections.
Responding to discussions surrounding former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and reports of internal differences within the party, Saini maintained that the BJP remained united. He described Amarinder Singh as one of the party’s senior leaders and said he continued to enjoy full respect within the organisation. He added that all BJP leaders and workers were collectively working towards strengthening the party.
The Haryana Chief Minister also took a swipe at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, describing him as an entertainer who was focused on drawing applause rather than addressing the concerns of the people. Saini alleged that Punjab was witnessing a deterioration in law and order, with gangsterism on the rise and little visible progress on development. In a sarcastic remark, he claimed that Mann begins creating a “Rangla Punjab” after 5 pm every evening, suggesting that the public was well aware of what he meant.
On the issue of the water-sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana, Saini adopted a conciliatory tone, saying that Punjab was equally his land and that solutions should be sought while keeping the interests of both states in mind. Drawing on the teachings of gurus, saints and spiritual leaders, he said efforts would be made to address concerns amicably and that the matter should not be unnecessarily turned into a major controversy.
