Dal Khalsa demands international investigation by Five Eyes countries into chain of command, financing and operational support behind Nijjar’s assassination
The indictment by the United States of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and fugitive Goldy Brar in connection with the June 2023 assassination of pro-Khalistan Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar has reinforced the long-standing Sikh position that Indian intelligence agencies engineered the killing through proxy criminal networks and so-called pseudo-nationalist gangsters.
AMRITSAR: The indictment by the United States of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and fugitive Goldy Brar in connection with the June 2023 assassination of pro-Khalistan Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar has reinforced the long-standing Sikh position that Indian intelligence agencies engineered the killing through proxy criminal networks and so-called pseudo-nationalist gangsters.
Contesting Indian government and its media version of giving “self clean chit” in Nijjar’s case, the Dal Khalsa leadership said that any sensible person familiar with the covert functioning of intelligence agencies would understand that states rarely deploy serving officials directly in extrajudicial and extraterritorial operations. Such operations are generally conducted through intermediaries, criminal syndicates and deniable non-state actors.
In a statement to the media, the Dal Khalsa working president Paramjit Singh Mand said the developments emerging from Operation Hard Ball had further clarified how India’s “Deep State” allegedly uses transnational criminal networks to target dissidents whom it perceives as threats to its national interests.
“Despite Lawrence Bishnoi’s incarceration—and the fact that he is being held under high security in a Gujarat prison—his criminal network has expanded across India and several foreign countries. This is perhaps the most glaring indication that such an organisation could not have grown to this extent without protection, facilitation or patronage from sections of the Deep State,” Mand said.
He said the Indian government and sections of the Indian media could not reasonably expect people to believe that a jailed gangster was directing an expanding international syndicate entirely on his own, without tactical assistance or institutional complicity.
“What personal enmity could Lawrence Bishnoi possibly have had with Hardeep Singh Nijjar?” Mand asked. “The more plausible explanation is that state agencies might be using Bishnoi’s network with or without his consent for their own objectives”.
“Instead of dismantling criminal syndicates and combating the gangster menace, sections of the state apparatus appear to be using non-state actors for strategic and political purposes,” he said.
Dal Khalsa demanded a transparent international investigation by Five Eyes countries into the full chain of command, financing, facilitation and operational support behind Nijjar’s assassination. The organisation said accountability must extend beyond the alleged gunmen and gangsters to every official, intermediary and institution found to have planned, enabled, protected or concealed the operation.
