PATIALA:N.S.S. Unit of Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Education, Dhamo Majra, Patiala celebrated 'International Women's Day' in the college campus in collaboration with Department of Human Genetics, Punjabi University, Patiala on theme Breast Cancer Awareness sponsored by Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Patiala Chapter. Dr.Munruchi Kaur (Director HRDC, Punjabi University , Patiala) was the Chief Guest on this occassion while Dr.Paramvir Singh (Convener, ISCA, Patiala Chapter), Dr. Rajinder Kaur (Head, Dept. of Human Genetics, Punjabi University, Patiala ) were the Guests of Honour. While welcoming the guests, College Principal, Dr. Harmeet Kaur Anand said that women empowerment is the key to strengthen their participation in the decision making which is most important for the socio-economic development. She further added that every individual needs to change his mindset towards women and should follow all the rules made for women empowerment. She also said that the situation will only change if we change our thoughts & conduct towards the women of our home & society. The Chief Guest Dr. Munruchi Kaur in her address said that we as women need to recognize our identity and role in our society. The need is not to change the society but to change the mindset of the women herself. Women should not misuse their powers. Dr. Nidhi ( Medical Officer) delivered an extension talk on Breast Cancer Awareness. She informed the students about the causes of breast cancer. She also added that every women should examine their breast regularly. On this occasion online declamation contest and offline slogan writing & poster making competitions were organized to create awareness regarding breast cancer. The students also presented a cultural programme consisting of poetic recitation, PPT and dance items. The dignatories who graced this occasion as judges were Dr.Tarlochan Singh Mahajan and S. Jaswant Singh ( Lect. Govt. Sen. Sec. Kalyan). The results of the competitions consisted of Gurnoor Kaur Sandhu (Govt. College of Edu., Patiala) bagging first position, Anjali Dhimri (Chandigarh College of Edu. Landran) second position & Nitika (Sant Kabir College of Edu. Kohli) and Gulbir Kaur (Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Edu., Patiala) third prize resp. in declamation. In slogan writing Gurnoor Kaur (Govt. College of Edu., Patiala) bagging first position, Himani Khetarpal (Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Edu., Patiala) bagging Second position and Jasleen Kaur (Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Edu., Patiala) got third position. In Poster making Seerat Sohal (Punjabi Uni., Patiala) got first, Gunjan (Public College , Samana) second and Jyoti Yadav (Govt. State college , Patiala) & Palak (Mata Sahib Kaur Khalsa Girls College of Edu., Patiala) got third position. In the end Dr. Paramvir Singh thanked the guests. All the staff members were present on this occasion.
