CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday started the election campaign "Saareyan nu ajmaya, saareyan ni ditta dhoka, hun jhadoo waleyan nu devangey mauka", for the forthcoming municipal bodies' elections being held at 139 places in Punjab. On the occasion, senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema and AAP MLAs Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal, Principal Budh Ram, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Baldev Singh Jaito, released a song in the context of election campaigning.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the campaign was started by sweeping with the party's election symbol 'broom' by all the candidates and office-bearers of AAP. He said that all the AAP volunteers had started the election campaign across the state by sweeping with 'brooms'. Cheema said that the filth in the houses and streets was being cleaned with a broom and in the same way, the filth of corruption in the municipal corporations and municipal councils by the Akali-Congress would also be cleaned with AAP's symbol 'broom'.

He said that the volunteers would take a pledge to clean up the filth of corruption today.  He added that the slogan of the party was - "Saareyan nu ajmaya, saareyan ni ditta dhoka, hun jhadoo waleyan nu devangey mauka". Cheema further said that the local government had been a hotbed of corruption for the last several decades. "Sanitation in the cities is deteriorating day by day, there is no provision of CCTV cameras to curb crime. The SAD-BJP and Congress had worked to fill their houses. The Aam Aadmi Party is now giving change to the people so that those who work for the people could be identified, " he added.

The AAP leaders said that the voters first gave opportunity to both the Akalis and the Congress parties, but the traditional parties had always disappointed the people of Punjab. They appealed to the voters to use their right to vote, this time to make the Aam Aadmi Party candidates win to bring change, so that the municipalities of Punjab can be corruption free, cities should be made clean and development works should be done in the city. The election campaign was attended by all AAP leaders, workers and candidates.
