Shaheedi divas of Guru Arjan Dev observed with enthusiasm

AMRITSAR: The shaheedi divas ofGuru Arjsn Dev was observed with great enthusiasm here on Monday. Thousand of devotees men women and children took a holy dip in sacred sarovar of Golden Temple .

A religious diwan (congregation) was organised by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) at gurd Ram Sar Sahib after the bhog of Akhand Path this morning.

Several raagis dhadis and preachers thrown the light of teaching of Guru Arjsn Dev. Raagi and dhadis were reciting shabad "tera kiya Meetha làage har naam padarath nanak maange..."

The stalls of sweet water and lsngsrs were organised at various places in the city.

Shaheedi gurpurb was also observed at Tarn Taran. Special gurbani kirtan was broad cast from Sri Darbar Sahib Tarn Taran by the All India Radio this morning

Similarly the reports of shaheedi divas were received from Patti, Goindwal, Khem Karan, Ajnala, Bhikhiwind, Rayya , Beas other parts of district

It may be mentioned that Guru Arjan Dev born in 1563 in Goindwal of Tarn Taran district, Guru Arjan Dev was the first martyr of the Sikh religion and was executed on the orders of Mughal emperor Jahangir.

The Mughals were afraid of his increasing influence in northern India and the spread of Sikhism.

Meanwhile, Giani Jaswant Singh, a former granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, discussed the history of the martyrdom of Guru Arjan.

He appealed to the sangat to take inspiration from the life history of Guru Sahib and to join Bani and Bana.

During the decorated Gurmat Samagam, the sangat was enthralled by Gurbani kirtan by the ragi jathas and Dhadi, Kavishar and Pracharak Singhs made the sangat listen to Gur-Itihas.
