April 20, 2020 04:39 PM

PATIALA: Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, a charitable hospital, in this district is participating in a big way in the concerted efforts of the Punjab government to fight the deadly Coronavirus. With a view to mitigating the hardships being faced by the needy the hospital has made available to the government 300 beds exclusively for Coronavirus infected patients.

As of today the hospital has the highest number of 51 Corona infected patients undergoing treatment. This makes the hospital the only hospital in the State to have the highest number of available beds for Coronavirus patients and the highest number of patients under treatment.

According to Col SPS Goraya, Medical Superintendent, the hospital had offered to the Punjab government that it was prepared to make available isolation wards to quarantine Corona infected patients. Later the Punjab Health and Family Welfare department notified the entire hospital of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital as an isolation facility even as it was also decided that the hospital would continue to function normally as it had enough beds to quarantine suspected Corona virus patients.

Dr Goraya said that of the 51 patients one patient was shifted to the ICU yesterday but shifted back to the indoor ward after the patient stabilized. Two patients, both from Mohali, were discharged yesterday.

He said that as of now the hospital has a total of 20 ventilators and has written to the Punjab government that it was all set to manage 100 ventilators if the government made available additional ventilators.

The Medical Superintendent said that the hospital management has requested the Punjab government to make available more equipment and diagnostic kits.

The hospital management last week signed a memorandum of understanding with the Punjab Health Systems Corporation wherein it was agreed that the hospital would make available 500 beds if need arose.

The hospital has a dedicated team of doctors and paramedics attending to the Coronavirus infected patients who have been putting in their best to ensure best possible medical treatment to  the Corona patients, Dr Goraya added.
