Police Administration Students Receive Practical Exposure to Traffic and Security Wings of Chandigarh Police
As part of the ongoing three-week internship programme, Day Three witnessed the students of the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh, visiting the Traffic Police Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh, to gain practical exposure to the functioning of various specialized units of Chandigarh Police.
CHANDIGARH: As part of the ongoing three-week internship programme, Day Three witnessed the students of the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh, visiting the Traffic Police Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh, to gain practical exposure to the functioning of various specialized units of Chandigarh Police.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairman, Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh, expressed his sincere gratitude to Chandigarh Police for providing valuable hands-on training to the students. He stated that such practical exposure significantly enhances students’ understanding of professional policing and effectively complements classroom learning. He also conveyed his appreciation to Inspector PunamDilawari, Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Inspector Surinder Kumar, ASI Balvir Singh, ASI Gurdeep Singh, SI Balkrishan, and the officers and staff of the Traffic Police Control Room, Security Wing, and Wireless Communication Section for their informative demonstrations and guidance.
During the visit, the students were taken to the Traffic Police Control Room, Challaning Branch, Impounded Vehicle Section, Security Wing, Security Store, and Wireless Communication Section, where they gained firsthand knowledge of the functioning of these specialized units.
At the Traffic Police Control Room, the students were briefed on the mechanism through which traffic-related complaints are received, monitored, and promptly responded to by Chandigarh Police. They also witnessed demonstrations of modern traffic enforcement equipment, including alcohol breathanalysers, speed detection devices, and body-worn cameras, highlighting the increasing role of technology in traffic regulation and law enforcement.

The Security Wing acquainted the students with its responsibilities in providing security to VIPs and dignitaries, as well as planning and executing security arrangements for major public events. At the Security Store, the students were introduced to a range of modern security equipment, including drones, metal detectors, bulletproof jackets, and other protective devices used in contemporary policing.
The Wireless Communication Section demonstrated the functioning, maintenance, and operational significance of the wireless communication network, which enables seamless coordination among police personnel during routine policing as well as emergency situations.
Officials of the Challaning Branch explained the complete process of traffic challaning, including the issuance of e-challans and the available online and offline payment mechanisms. The Impounded Vehicle Section familiarized the students with the legal and procedural aspects relating to the impounding, release, and disposal of vehicles involved in traffic violations.
The educational visit was accompanied by Dr. ShavetaBegra, Dr. Satnam Singh, and SI Kuldeep Singh of Chandigarh Police, who guided the students throughout the practical exposure programme and facilitated meaningful interaction with the officers of the respective units.
The internship programme continues to provide Police Administration students with valuable field-based learning opportunities, enabling them to understand the practical dimensions of policing while strengthening the integration of academic knowledge with professional practice. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Chandigarh Police towards promoting experiential learning and preparing future professionals in the field of Police Administration.
