PHAGWARA: A matrimonial dispute took an ugly turn in Phagwara when one Phagwara resident transporter Suresh Gogna opened fire during heated arguments during a meeting between the families of a woman Prabhjot Kaur and her husband XEN Sunny Gogna at Green Avenue locality in Phagwara on late Thursday night.
In the violent incident a 25-year-old woman identified as Meharjot Kaur resident of Patiala was reportedly shot dead and her father Amrik Singh sustained serious bullet injuries by the father-in-law of her elder sister , police said .
The dead was identified as Meharjot Kaur of Patiala, said S.P.Phagwara Sarabjit Bahia.
The injured Meharjot's father Amrik Singh was first admitted in local civil hospital but was sent to Johal Hospital Rama Mandi due to his critical condition.
The incident took place when Amrik, along with his daughter Meharjot, went to the house of his son-in-law Sunny Gogna who is working as XEN in Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board in green avenue Phagwara to settle the matrimonial dispute but Suresh Gogna father of the XEN lost his control during heated arguments and opened fire upon the family members of his daughter in law. Prabhjot Kaur wife of the XEN alleged before the police that her husband has extra-marital affairs with a woman officer which couldn’t be tolerated.
Senior Superintendent of the Police Kanwardeep Kaur IPS told this correspondent here today that on a complaint of Prabhjot Kaur, the police has registered a case under section 302/307/498, 120B and arms act of IPC against arrested Suresh Gogna his XEN son Sunny Gogna, wife Neelam Gogna, and two others Rupali, Chetan, of village Palahai and Lata Chohan of Chandigarh.SSP said the police has impounded the weapon used in the crime, recovered the empty cartridges
