Three Booked for Abetment of Suicide in Phagwara
PHAGWARA: The City Phagwara police have registered a case against a woman and her parents on charges of abetment of suicide following the death of a 30-year-old man who allegedly ended his life after being subjected to prolonged harassment.
According to the FIR registered under Case No. 177 dated June 18, 2026, under Sections 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the complainant, Jimmy Karwal of Bedians Mohalla, Khalwara Gate, Phagwara, alleged that his brother-in-law, Bharat Sharma, a resident of Gali No. 3, Subhash Nagar, Phagwara, died by suicide on June 14 by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room using a scarf.
The complainant alleged that Bharat Sharma had been under severe mental distress due to continuous harassment by his wife, Sakshi Lahoria, his father-in-law, Anil Lahoria, and his mother-in-law, Mona Lahoria, all residents of Nawanshahr. Acting on the complaint, the City Phagwara police registered a case against the three accused and initiated an investigation.
