Phagwara couple booked for fraud of Rs. One Crore

PHAGWARA: -On a complaint lodged by a Phagwara resident Sukhwinder Singh the city police phagwara have registered a case under section 420 IPC against a couple identified as Vinod Kumar and his wife Meena Rani residets of mehli gate Phagwara on the charges of defrauding of nearly ₹1 crore under the guise of a foreign investment opportunity.

The complainant Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of the Backside Keerti Hospital Phagwara, told the police that he was misled and cheated by four individuals who later fled abroad.

The complaint was filed on June 21, against four persons including Vinod Kumar and his wife Meena Rani and their son Rohit Banga, and daughter Shivani Banga. All four are reportedly residents of Mohalla Mutiarpura, Mehli Gate, Phagwara.

According to complainant Sukhwinder Singh, the accused convinced him to invest a substantial amount of money, promising significant returns from a business venture overseas. Trusting their assurances, he transferred nearly one crore rupees over a period of time. However, once the funds were secured, the accused allegedly arranged to leave the country, severing all communication with him.

Singh stated in his complaint that the fraudulent act has caused him severe financial and emotional distress. He has requested a thorough investigation and strict legal action against the accused. The local police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint, but no arrests has been made till so far.
