Kapurthala Police Solve Mall Road Robbery Case, Arrest Murder Accused and Intensify Crackdown on Crime
KAPURTHALA: Kapurthala Police have achieved major successes in separate criminal cases, including the arrest of the main accused in the Jatinder Sehgal alias Jinder Dhaniya murder case and the resolution of the sensational Mall Road mansion robbery case, while continuing an intensified campaign against organised crime and anti-social elements in the district.
Addressing a news conference on Monday Evening, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala Gaurav Toora said sustained operations based on technical surveillance, human intelligence and coordinated field investigations had led to significant breakthroughs in high-profile cases that had drawn public attention in recent weeks.
The SSP said police had arrested Nikhil Sharma, the prime accused in the murder of Jatinder Sehgal alias Jinder Dhaniya, from Delhi Airport while he was allegedly attempting to leave the country. Two other accused, Saurabh Kumar and Sukhwinder Singh, were also arrested near Kartarpur. The murder took place on June 28 near Lahori Gate, where Jatinder was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
With the latest arrests, police have taken into custody six of the nine named accused, including one juvenile arrested earlier. Efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining accused and complete the investigation.
In another major breakthrough, Kapurthala Police successfully solved the widely discussed Mall Road mansion robbery case by arresting the principal accused—a painter and his wife—from Jalandhar. The accused had allegedly held members of a family hostage before fleeing with approximately 30 to 32 tolas of gold ornaments and cash from the residence located in one of the city's upscale localities.
Police investigations revealed that the male accused had been working at the house as a painter for a considerable period and had earned the trust of the family. Taking advantage of this familiarity, he allegedly conspired with his wife to execute the robbery.
The SSP said police have recovered around 17 tolas of stolen gold from the possession of the accused. Both suspects have been remanded to police custody for further interrogation to trace the remaining stolen property and identify individuals who may have been involved in purchasing or disposing of the valuables.
He further disclosed that the male accused had previously been involved in three theft cases, and investigators are examining whether there are links with other criminal activities or persons associated with the disposal of stolen property.
Reiterating the district police's commitment to maintaining law and order, the SSP said strict action would continue against criminals, organised gangs and anti-social elements. He expressed confidence that further recoveries and important disclosures would emerge during the ongoing investigations.
