PHAGWARA: The Kapurthala Police have registered a criminal case against a local resident on charges of allegedly cheating a man of Rs 15 lakh by falsely promising to arrange overseas employment.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala Gaurav Toora while confirming it told here today that the case has been registered under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 24 of the Emigration Act, 1983. The offences correspond to allegations of cheating, criminal breach of trust and violations related to illegal overseas recruitment.
The complainant, Satpal Singh (38), resident of village Sardulapur near Sultanpur Lodhi approached the police alleging that Roshan Lal, resident of Kapurthala, had assured him of arranging a job abroad. Believing the assurances, the complainant allegedly paid Rs 15 lakh to the accused for processing the overseas employment.
However, the promised job was allegedly never arranged, and the accused is also alleged to have threatened the complainant when he demanded the return of his money.
