Alleged Sexual Misconduct With Two Minor Girls Reported in Phagwara

PHAGWARA: Phagwara police initiated an investigation late on 27 May after two minor girls, aged nine and five, were brought to Civil Hospital Phagwara for medical examination following allegations of sexual misconduct. The incident came to light when the children’s family sought medical and legal intervention.
According to information shared by relatives, the girls had been living with their grandmother in Bedhia Mohalla, Khalwara Gate, within Tehsil Phagwara of District Kapurthala. The children reportedly visited the home of a neighbour, identified as Sonu, estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old, on a routine basis.
Family members stated that the minors returned home and informed their grandmother that the neighbour had allegedly touched them inappropriately on their private parts. Alarmed by the disclosure, the family immediately contacted the police and accompanied the children to the hospital for examination.
Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma has confirmed that Sonu has been detained from Bedhia Mohalla in connection with the allegations. SP Madhvi told this correspondent that An FIR has been registered, and further inquiry is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather corroborative evidence.
Medical evaluation of the minors has been completed, and authorities are expected to proceed based on the findings and statements recorded. The case remains under active investigation, with law enforcement emphasizing due process and child‑protection protocols.
