AMRITSAR: The Eco Club, Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA) in collaboration with Zoological Society of PG Department of Zoology organized a "Hands on Training Workshop on Vermicomposting and Solid Waste Management". The workshop was organized under ‘Environment Education Program’ by Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change and Nodal Agency Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh.
The workshop was organized to provide hands on training of vermicomposting procedure to the students and highlight its importance for solid waste management for keeping the environment clean and green. About 150 students of B.Sc. (Medical), M.Sc. (Zoology), and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology participated in this workshop.
Principal Dr. Mehal Singh addressed the participants and discussed the importance of Vermicomposting for benefits of the society. He also added that this kind of workshops can help the students to get aware about the environmental issues and to develop remedies to overcome the same. Chief Guest of the program, Dr. K.S. Bath, Joint Director, PSCST, Chandigarh discussed the overview of the Environment Education Programme and the events organized by Punjab State Council during 2023-24.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Head, Department of Zoology and Incharge Eco-Club demonstrated the procedure and applications of vermicomposting and elaborated that the kitchen and dairy waste can easily be managed and converted into valuable manure by this technique for making the environment clean. Jaswinder Singh Bhatia, Agriculture Information Officer, Farmer Training Center, KCA provided hands on training on vermicomposting and answered the queries of the students regarding the procedures. Dr. Amandeep Singh, Co-ordinator of the Zoological Society presented vote of thanks to Principal all the participants and faculty members. Students and faculty members took pledge to keep the environment clean and green.
Faculty members of PG Department of Zoology, Dr. Zorawar Singh, Prof. Randeep Singh, Dr. Satinder Kaur, Prof. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Sandeep Kour, Dr. Ankita Thakur, Dr. Mohammad Ali, Aabid Amin, Nikhar Sharma, Sakshi Kaushal and Kritika Kaushal were also present during the event.
