CHANDIGARH:  As many as 158 trainees appeared in UT Cricket Association’s (UTCA) first trials held on Wednesday after attaining BCCI affiliation. The trials were held at the Mahajan School of Cricket, IT Park, to select probables for a camp.

The trials were conducted in a very transparent and fair manner wherein parents or friends were not allowed at the venue. The selectors along with UTCA head coach VRV Singh and fitness trainer Sagar Diwan conducted the trials from 9 am to 4 pm. “It was pleasing to see such talented pool of cricketers turning up for the trials. Be it fast bowlers, spinners, wicket-keepers, batsmen and all-rounders, all were there in good numbers.

After selecting a pool of probable’s, UTCA would like to groom and prepare them for various senior age-group tournaments. UTCA ensured the trials were conducted in a fair manner and no outside elements were allowed to enter the field,” said VRV Singh. A final list of probables will be announced in a day or two. Players namely Uday Kaul, Jaskaran Singh Buttar, Arjun Azad, Shivam Bhambri, Amit Shukla, Mandeep Singh, Harmeet Bansal etc appeared for the trials.

UTCA president, Sanjay Tandon said, “it is our first season. We want everything to be very fair and transparent. We want to set a precedent. Infact, there is no place for corruption in our system. We will ensure in future too that trials and selections are held in a proper manner with no bias.”

In a new innovation in the field of selections in cricket, the participants were issued unique numbers and the selectors were to give performance scores for each number of player not knowing the name of players. This led to completely unbiased numbering from a panel of distinguished selectors. The names of the selected players will be announced tomorrow.

Trails for other categories both for men and women will also be held now and the dates and venues for the same shall be announced shortly. All such information will also be available on the website of UTCA ie. www.chandigarhcricket.in

UTCA is also initiated the process for selection of fitness trainers and coaches for both men and women.
