Gurinder stars in Haryana's win in final against Punjab in NZ Audit Cricket

CHANDIGARH: AG Haryana emerged champions after recording a 73-run victory against AG Punjab in the final of the Indian Audit & Accounts Department North Zone Cricket Tournament at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

Punjab won the toss but decided to chase the victory total. Gurinder Singh stole the limelight with an unbeaten 120 and was associated in two match-winning partnerships. For the fourth wicket partnership with Preet Kamal (54, 6x4s, 3x6s) he stitched a 60-run partnership.

After the fall of Preet's wicket at 150, Gurinder Singh was associated in 153-run unbroken fifth wicket stand with Bipul Sharma (54 not out, 1x4, 2x6s). Gurinder Singh remained undefeated on 120 which contained 16 boundaries and one six from 96 deliveries.
Chasing a victory target of 304, Punjab were dismissed for 270 despite a hurricane 114 (7x4s, 8x6s) by opener Prashant Chopra. Chopra and Amit Prashar gave a fine start to Punjab by posting 52 runs for the opening wicket stand. After the exit of Prashar, Chopra and Arpit Panny (40) took the total of 168 before Chopra was stumped by Handa of the bowling of Karan Kaila, who in his 6.5 overs spell took three wickets for 62 runs. Kunwar Raina contributed 37 runs with the help of five fours and one six.
Haryana fast bowler Biput Sharma fired a deadly spell by claiming five wickets for 39 runs. He dismissed Bharat Lumba (0), Rakesh Sethi (0), Amit Kakaria (0), Amit Prashar (20) andJaskaran Bhutter (7).
All-rounder Bipul Sharma of AG, Haryana who scored 54 runs and took 5 wickets by giving 39 runs in eight overs, was adjudged Man of the Final match.
Gurinder Singh of AG Haryana, who scored unbeaten 120 runs in 96 balls in the final match, was declared Man of the Tournament.
Mr Vivek Attray, IAS (Retd.) gave away the trophy to the winning team and prizes to Man of the match and Man of the tournament. Mr Faisal Imam, Accountant General (Audit) Haryana presided over the prize distribution function.
