CLTA signs MoU with Club Atletico Montemar of Spain

CHANDIGARH: Giving a major push to improving quality of tennis training in the region, Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) today signed a protocol with its Spanish counterpart – Club Atletico Montemar (CAM), Spain. The protocol, for a five-year period 2019-2024, was signed between Mr Jai Singh Gill, President, CLTA and Mr. Joaquin Perez Roman, founder and Director of Club Atletico Montemer, Alicante, Spain at a well attended ceremony in the picturesque centre court of the CLTA tennis Stadium in Chandigarh.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Punjab, was the chief guest. Mr. Manuel Maria Sandoval Fernandez, who is a reputed national tennis coach and certified Fitness Trainer top Tennis Coaches also attended the event. Spectators were treated to the spectacle of precise tennis drills conducted by Spanish coach with trainees of CLTA’s Chandigarh Academy of Rural Tennis (CHART).

Under the protocol the training and coaching systems of CLTA will receive a big boost.  The coach and trainer designated by CAM would visit Chandigarh every year to work at CLTA, initially for a period of ten training days (five days of training, two rest days, five days of training) and upgrade the training facilities, help the coaches and provide latest skills to trainees.

This will be very beneficial as trainees will be exposed to International techniques in Chandigarh itself, thereby saving on a lot of logistical problems and finances. Secondly, 4 children from CLTA’s famous and internationally acclaimed Chandigarh Academy of Rural Tennis (CHART) would go to Spain for training exposure in latest Global tennis techniques for a period of 2 to 3 weeks. CAM will coordinate the training programme. What’s more, with the pact CLTA would develop close links with the Spanish Academy.  This in turn would assist the trainees to go higher in world tennis and become champions in their own rights.

The visitors from Spain’s Club Atletico Montemar stated that they had been impressed with the CHART programme.  Under CHART players from villages, mainly from North Indian States like Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan are selected and are trained at CLTA.” On the occasion Mr. Rajan Kashyap, Founder and Patron in Chief CLTA added, “Club Atletico Montemar is deeply interested in supporting our programme, which has a strong social content, being supportive of village children in India.”
