Ankita Raina goes down fighting in US Open qualifying 2nd round

CHANDIGARH: Indian Anikta Raina and Denisa Allertova of Czech Republic traded stroke for stroke in the women's singles second round qualifying match in the US Open at theUSTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center,  Flushing Meadows, New York today.

The duration of the match on Court 16 was two hours and 17 minutes and Denisa registered a hard-fought three setter verdict 6-7 (5-6), 6-4, 6-2.

Anikta committed two unforced eerors and Denisa committed  three unforced errors. Denisa fired four aces and committed three double faults. Anikta committed two double faults. Denisa won 69 total points and Ankita won 58 total points. Ankita  three break points out of 7 while her rival won 6 out of 12.
After splitting the first two sets,  Raina of India was broken in the second game of the second set to trail 0-2. However, Ankita hit back and broke her opponent to make it 1-2 in the third set. Ankita restored parity by holding her serve after elading 40-15, 40-30 (2-2).
Anikta faced service break as she trailed 30-40 on her service in the sixth game. She, however, made it 40-40 but lost the game with a break to trail 2-4. Plucky Ankita again fought back and led 30-40 on Denisa's service in the seventh game. Four times duece was called and Denisa retained her service after having three times advantage. The player from Czech Republic gained a commanding 5-2 lead.
Ankita Raina trailed 30-40 and saved a match point in the eighth game. Denisa broke Ankita to clinch the set at 6-2 and the match.
