SC Rly face Punjab National Bank in Gurmit Hockey final

CHANDIGARH:South Central Railway and Punjab National Bank will contest in the final of the 48th SN Vohra's All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here tomorrow.
In the semi-final matches played today, SC Railway derailed Central Railway of Mumbai by 4-1 while Punjab National Bank ousted Punjab Police, Jalandhar via penalty shootout 5-4 after the regular session ending in a 4-4 deadlock.
SC Railway launched their all out attack from the word go and their move bore fruit as in the first minute of the match PR Aiyappa scored a field goal to put his team ahead. SC Railway kept on their pressure and were comfortably placed with a 3-0 lead at the end of ninth minutes of play. In the seventh minute SC Railway forced a penalty corner and Sheshe Gowde converted it with ease.
Two minutes later M G Poonacha banged home a field goal. However, second quarter yielded no result. SC Railway increased their lead in the 42nd minute as Pratap Lakra converted a penalty corner. Victo Singh scored the consolation goal for Central Railway in the 55th minute to reduce the margin 1-4.
The second semi-final between Punjab National Bank and Punjab Police was evenly contested and at the conclusion of the stipulated 70-minute session they shared eight goals. Consequently the match was extended to penalty shootout in which Punjab National Bank were lucky to emerge winners.
It looked like Punjab Police will earned a berth in the final as they led 4-1 at the end of 36th minutes of play. However, Punjab National Bank had other ideas. They reorganised their game and went all out. They scored three goals in 11 minutes to share the honours 4-4 in the regulation period.
Hardeep and Pawandeep converted penalty corners in the seventh and ninth minutes, respectively, as Punjab Police gained a 2-2 lead. Dharamvir further increased the lead with a field goal in the 23th minute.
Punjab National Bank opened their account in the 27th minute through Gagandeep who converted a penalty corner. One minute after the lemon break (36th minute) Gurvinder scored a field goal as Punjab Police were sitty pretty with a 4-1 lead.
However, Punjab National Bank were not disheartened by trailing 1-4. They hit back and Sanjay scored a penatly corner goal in the 31st minute to reduce the margin 2-4. Putting on relentless pressure, Punjab National Bank pumped in two more goals in as many minutes to level the score at 4-4. Abhishek scored a field goal in the 50th minute and Gagandeep converted a penalty stroke in the 52nd minute.
Punjab National Bank clinched the issue via penalty shoot-out.
Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony tomorrow.
